Patsy Kentz was born and raised in Summit, N.J. and spent her summers at the Jersey Shore in Spring Lake. She left New Jersey to attend Georgetown University to earn a B.S. and then to Georgetown University Dental School. Patsy practiced Dentistry for over 30 years in Northern Virginia. After retirement she pursued her second career as an artist. After visiting Jody O’Callaghan, an artist in New Hampshire, she was so inspired by her art work that she decided to study with Jody. She also studied with other artists, Pamela Jarrett and Christine Lashky. She found that the same attention to detail in Dentistry applies to art as well. It wasn’t long before Patsy was commissioned to do house portraits for families in Northern Virginia. It was also Patsy’s love of the beach and her fond memories of Spring Lake that lead her to paint scenes of that area. “When I paint the boardwalk in Spring Lake I can feel my mother and me walking together early every morning.” Although Painting has become Patsy’s second career, she doesn’t consider it a job. She paints because there are no time or space constraints during her creative process. Patsy describes this as a form of meditation.
Several of Patsy’s paintings are displayed at Frederick Galleries, Spring Lake, N.J.
